FRHS Community Health provides programs for our community & outreach services for our schools.  We also provide services for low income families through the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) program.

What is the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Program?
WIC is a special supplemental nutrition program, funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered by the South Dakota Department of Health.  It is provided at no cost to eligible moms, babies & children. WIC’s goal is to help improve health by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, offering education on healthy eating, nutrition & breastfeeding and making referrals to other services.

  • Selecting & using nutritious foods

  • Improving overall health
  • Answering food & nutrition questions
  • Providing support & referrals for breastfeeding
  • Explaining the benefits of breastfeeding
  • Breast pumps are available to loan for those on the WIC program
  • Providing breastfeeding peer counseling
  • Healthy Foods Based on Individual Needs: Milk
  • Whole grains
  • Fruits & Vegetables
  • Eggs
  • Canned Fish
  • Infant formula, foods & cereals
  • Juice
  • Cereal
  • Peanut Butter
  • Dried & canned beans/peas
