Mara Andersen Selected as 2020 FRHS Scholarship Recipient

Freeman Regional Health Services (FRHS) awards an annual $1,000 scholarship to promote higher education and to provide resources for our youth seeking higher education in the medical field. Each year, a scholarship is awarded to a qualifying senior from one of the following schools: Freeman Public High School, Freeman Academy, Bridgewater/Emery High School, Marion High School and Menno High School. The scholarship is to be used toward the educational costs of attending an institution of higher learning. This year the committee selected a candidate who exemplified our mission to invest in our future medical field. We are proud to announce that our 2020 scholarship recipient is Mara Andersen, a senior at Freeman Public High School.
Mara Andersen has been actively involved in her school and community, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She participated in high school Band, Mixed Chorus and Quiz Bowl all four years. She has taken on multiple leadership roles for student organizations, including serving as the president of the Future Health Professionals (HOSA) and Choir. She has been involved in student athletics, including four years as a volleyball and wrestling statistician. Andersen has invested in our region by working as a FRHS CNA and extensively volunteering in her community, at her church and at FRHS. She created and organized the Freeman Triathlon that has raised funds for charitable causes for the last five years. Andersen has received numerous honors, including serving as a Girls State Delegate, All State Chorus Delegate and National Honor Society Member. She has earned several awards for her efforts, including the 2018 Modern Woodmen Hometown Hero Award and is a Distinguished Finalist for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. Andersen plans to major in Human Biology and to pursue a medical degree.
